Laser skin resurfacing is an ideal treatment for sun-damaged skin thanks to the short amount of down time you will experience (usually 5-10 days) and the cost effectiveness of the treatment, thanks in large part to the fact that we can do these treatments in our office rather than an operating room. Dr. Mobley will see you for a consultation to determine the areas that need treatment and then will administer the treatment himself (no techs). Oral sedatives along with topical and/or local anesthetic is used to make sure you are completely comfortable during the procedure, which will last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the areas being treated.
The Beauty Now team uses two types of lasers to treat sun-damaged skin, the Erbium-YAG laser and the Fractionated CO2 Laser. The primary advantage of the CO2 laser is that Dr. Mobley can adjust the pulse rate of the laser based on the condition of your skin and the amount of downtime you can allow for, ensuring that your specific needs are perfectly cared for. The Erbium-YAG is a gentler laser especially good for skin pigmented areas. It can be used alone or as a complimentary adjunct to CO2 laser resurfacing.
Another option to improve tone, texture, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation is the VI Peel, which is administered under Dr. Mobley’s watchful eye by our amazing Master Esthetician, Sheila. The VI Peel is one of the best peels in its class, as it is safe for all skin types, the results are highly predictable, and there is minimal downtime. With just one treatment, you can see visible improvement.
Schedule a consultation with Dr. Mobley today and start down your path to healthier skin. He may want to use one of our lasers or may prescribe a VI Peel (think of this as a lighter skin peel) with Sheila.
The best candidate for laser skin resurfacing is a physically healthy woman who is realistic in her expectations and interested in improving the appearance of facial wrinkles and sun-damaged skin. Full-face laser resurfacing is not typically ideal for men, though some men are candidates for use of the laser on specifically targeted facial areas, such as around the eyes. Some of the reasons for skin resurfacing include:
The procedure may be performed in the office or an outpatient surgical center. Laser resurfacing can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour and a half to complete, depending on the size of the area treated. Local anesthesia combined with sedation is most often used, though more extensive resurfacing procedures may be performed with general anesthesia.
Laser resurfacing is not particularly painful, but it will require a recovery period of ten days to two weeks, during which your participation is necessary. By the end of your second recovery week, hypo-allergenic make-up can be worn and most people will feel comfortable returning to their daily social activities. Following the immediate post-operative period, your new skin will have a pinkish hue which, along with your wrinkles, will diminish over the next three months as your skin continues to rebuild new collagen. To maintain the healthy benefits of the regenerated skin, patients should dedicate themselves to an extended skin care program that includes sunscreen, is mandatory in the postoperative period and a good habit to continue. Our certified aestheticians (skin care specialists) will advise the best long-term treatment program for maintaining your new, healthy skin.
