I Have Skin Cancer, How Can Dr. Mobley Help?
I am well known for my ability to perform facial reconstruction following skin cancer removal using techniques that result in minimal scarring. I have extensive experience caring for patients with skin cancer, working closely with four full-time University of Utah dermatologists. In fact, I have authored two major text-book chapters on facial scar improvement. Does Insurance Cover This Kind Of Surgery?
Most insurance companies cover having a facial plastic surgeon reconstruct the face following skin cancer removal.

Patients usually recovery from facial scar or skin cancer reconstruction relatively quickly. If you’re not self conscious about having stitches in the skin, you should be able to return to work three to four days after the operation. Stitches are removed one week following surgery. Most patients are surprised how minor their post-operative discomfort is. Can I Contact Others Who Had This Surgery?
If you would like more information, we can often arrange for patients to share their personal experiences with you. In fact, I strongly encourage skin cancer patients to speak with other patients who have been through similar operations. This often has a support group-type function and can help patients ease through the recovery process. What Are The Common Risks Of This Procedure?
Every type of surgery has risks. It’s my ethical responsibility to educate you on these risks so you can make the best possible decision for yourself while weighing these risks against the benefits of surgery. My training helps me to minimize these risks to the best of my ability, but I cannot eliminate them entirely. Common risks include thick or widened scar, delayed healing of incisions, need for “touch up” surgery, and loss of skin at edges of reconstruction. The risks above are the most common ones that I think you should be aware of, but they are not a complete list of all possible risks. When I see you in consultation and we begin to formulate your surgical treatment plan, I’ll review with you not only these common risks but also the less likely complications that may occur.

After undergoing Skin Cancer Reconstruction it is common to take 5-10 days off to recover. Many patients view this necessary time off from work as on opportune moment to get something cosmetic performed that they have long desired but not had the time to pursue. Utah Skin Cancer Reconstruction | Salt Lake CitySkin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States overall and Utah in particular. One of the most important aspects of dealing with skin cancer is to focus on prevention:Minimize exposure to the sun during peak sun hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Wear clothes and wide-brimmed hats that protect the skin and face. Wear wraparound sunglasses that block close to 100% of UV rays. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. If you are diagnosed with skin cancer, what do you do? First and foremost, seek consultation with a board certified Dermatologist. I work closely with some of the finest dermatologists in the state of Utah. I would always recommend that skin cancer, particularly lesions on the face, be removed by a Dermatologist who has undergone specialized training in the area of Mohs Surgery. To make an appointment with one of the University of Utah Dermatology Mohs Surgeons, please call 801-581-2955. Once your skin cancer has been completely removed, you next want to have the best possible facial reconstruction. This is where I can be of particular importance to your care. Some reconstructions are simple and can be done by the dermatologist once the cancer has been removed. Larger skin cancers, or skin cancers in visually critical areas of the face such as the nose, lips, and cheeks, often require the expertise of a Facial Plastic Surgeon. With my practice’s Focus on the Face, my goal is to return your face back to as normal appearance as medically possible. Online Form Terms of Use
