How Can I Breathe Better Through My Nose?

In the field of nasal surgery, I am well known for my ability to improve or restore nasal breathing – even in some of the most difficult surgical cases. I perform the latest techniques in nasal valve surgery and often teach these techniques to other physicians, both locally and nationally.

Does Insurance Cover Corrective Nasal Surgery?

Most corrective nasal operations performed to improve nasal airflow are covered by insurance companies. We advise patients to research their individual policies, and our office staff can assist in this research. I will see out-of-network patients who require my unique expertise in nasal airway improvement.

What Are My Financing Options With Dr. Mobley?

Dr. Mobley wants to make cosmetic surgery available to as many people as possible. For that reason we have hand picked lending services exclusively for Dr. Mobley's patients. When you come in for your consultation we will be more than happy to go over all your financial options with you. We have provided web links to our financial lenders so that you may research them on your own if you so desire.www.mlendfinancial.com

How Long is The Recovery Period?

You will be seen directly by me one to two days after your nasal surgery. I will personally examine your nose and review your post-operative care with you. Approximately one week after your surgery, I will see you again to remove your cast and stitches. Your nose will probably be noticeably swollen for the first two weeks. After two weeks, however, the swelling has usually decreased to the point that it is only noticed by patients themselves and their closest family members.

When Can I Return To Work Or School?

If you do light (office) work, you could return to these activities four to five days after the operation. If you do more physical work, seven to ten days is more appropriate. If you care for young children at home, it is best to have someone available to help with their care for the first four to seven days.

What Are The Common Risks Of Rhinoplasty?

Every type of surgery has risks. It’s my ethical responsibility to educate you on these risks so you can make the best possible decision for yourself while weighing these risks against the benefits of surgery. My training helps me to minimize these risks to the best of my ability, but I cannot eliminate them entirely.

Common risks include stiffness in nasal tip, irregularities of bone or cartilage, damage to internal linings, and infection of stitches.

The risks above are the most common ones that I think you should be aware of, but they are not a complete list of all possible risks. When I see you in consultation and we begin to formulate your surgical treatment plan, I’ll review with you not only these common risks but also the less likely complications that may occur.

Experience Matters...

Last year, Dr. Mobley performed 161 nasal surgeries. Although most Ear, Nose & Throat surgeons perform this operation, it is still an area of surgery where there are nuances to both the diagnosis and surgical treatment of nasal obstruction. As a University of Utah faculty member, he has developed a very large referral base from physicians from several states—including Ear, Nose & Throat surgeons who send him their most challenging cases. Dr. Mobley has seen it all and can tailor each operation based on his many years of experience.

After undergoing Functional Nasal Surgery it is common to take 5-10 days off to recover. Many patients view this necessary time off from work as on opportune moment to get something cosmetic performed that they have long desired but not had the time to pursue. The best treatment option for resurfacing moderate-to-severe sun damaged skin utilizes the Carbon Dioxide laser. The laser seals tiny capillaries and lymph vessels, decreasing post treatment swelling. Additionally, the laser can be programmed to reach a predictable depth. The regenerating skin is smoother, more uniform in color, more elastic and thicker. Another added and very important benefit to laser resurfacing is the removal of pre-cancerous skin lesions (actinic keratosis).

A well functioning nose and the ability to breathe air through both passage of the nose are important to your quality of life. Nasal obstruction is most commonly caused by a deviated septum and/or nasal valve collapse. If you’ve got problems with nasal obstruction, you know how annoying this problem can be. Surgery to relieve nasal obstruction is usually covered by most major insurance companies.

Most nasal surgeries can be performed on an outpatient basis in a relatively short surgical procedure. This is particularly true when no previous surgery or trauma to the nose has occurred. For patients that have had previous surgery then revision nasal surgery is the next treatment option.

Many surgeons refer revision nasal surgery cases to a university-level center because of their inherent complexity. These types of situations are relatively common in my practice and often we are able to dramatically improve the breathing of patients that require this type of more complex revision surgery.

The recuperation period is from 5-14 days based on the type of surgery you require.
