Sculptra® Aesthetic
Sculptra® Aesthetic is a unique injectable material that Dr. Mobley most commonly uses to restore facial volume. It can be used in the cheeks, near the lower eyes, and around the jaw line. Per the FDA, its three official sites of use are: nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the sides of the mouth), marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth down to the chin), and chin wrinkles. SculptraAesthetic helps to restore facial volume and while doing so, helps to restore a more youthful refined facial appearance.

Sculptra is a different type of filler. Rather than just simply filling the area, SculptraAesthetic stimulates your body to produce its own collagen. SculptraAesthetic works more gradually compared to other fillers. However, it lasts up to two years (and possibly longer). This creates a natural and long-lasting cosmetic improvement.

The process is gradual and typically requires two or three sessions. Immediately after the injections the area may look full, but most of this fullness is due to the sterile water used in the Sculptra treatment. It is entirely normal and expected for this initial volume to reduce in the first few weeks following each treatment. However, as time passes, the area treated will begin to slowly build its own collagen, which leads to improvement in facial appearance and a restoration of youthful facial volume.

After about four, Dr. Mobley will treat you a second time with SculptraAesthetic. This is a standard part of the treatment and enables you another opportunity to build up more of your own natural facial collagen. One or two of these follow-up sessions, spaced approximately four weeks apart, are usually required to complete the process.
The Cost of Sculptra
The extent of the procedure may involve one or several areas of the face. The appropriate dosage for each area may vary, making it difficult to provide a meaningful cost estimate until you are examined by a doctor.

Sculptra® Aesthetic is provided to our office in “vials”, not syringes. Your first treatment will typically require one or two vials and your subsequent session(s) will often only require one vial. After a consultation you and Dr. Mobley can decide how many vials are right for you and this will determine the exact cost for the treatment. A ballpark estimate is budget approximately $700 per SculptraAesthetic treatment. Remember, Sculptra lasts up to 2 years or longer according to FDA data. As the University of Utah’s only board-certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Mobley will personally perform the injection, and you can rest assured that you are in the hands of a well-qualified surgeon who has treated hundreds of patients over the years with various injectable products. Remember, its your face, and “Experience Matters”.
Other Important Information
Sculptra® Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable that works gradually to give you subtle yet noticeable results that can last up to two years. Sculptra is made from a biocompatible synthetic substance called poly-L-lactic acid, and does not require allergy testing before use. Poly-L-lactic acid is a long chemical name which may sound intimidating to some patients. To put it simply, this main ingredient in Sculptra is a commonly used substance in most surgical suture material. If you have had stitches in the past, chances are high that they were made of poly-L-lactic acid.

Sculptra is a non-surgical alternative to autologous fat grafting which requires surgical harvesting of fat from the abdomen or thigh which is then injected into the face. If you are looking for a non-surgical option to restore facial volume, then Sculptra® Aesthetic might be a good choice for you.
Complications and Risks of Sculptra
The most common side effects of Sculptra include tenderness, redness, and discomfort at the injection points, which can last up to two weeks. Dr. Mobley will the possible complications and the remedies during your initial consultation.

Side effects of Sculptra Aesthetic may include injection site discomfort, redness, bruising, bleeding, itching, and swelling. Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported. In a key clinical study the numbers of small and larger lumps were low and most resolved without treatment.
