What is Involved With Forehead/Brow Lift Surgery?

There are four main ways to change the position of the brow and eyebrow area. Most commonly, I perform an endoscopic forehead lift. This is the more modern way to lift the brow, and allows me to accomplish a browlift by placing only five small incisions hidden in the hair of the scalp. For men with thinning hair there are other surgical options.

How Much Does Forehead/Brow Lift Surgery Cost?

To fully understand the costs of cosmetic surgery, you must understand the guiding principles of my medical practice: Safety, Quality and a Respect for Cost. I have not designed the surgical experience to be lowest bid; rather, I want you to have an exceptionally high-quality medical experience. If this interests you, please read on.

There are three main components that contribute to your final cosmetic surgery fee. The first component is the surgeon's fee. As this is a medical experience, your final surgeon's fee can only determined after a full consultation with me. I will perform a complete history and physical exam and we will carefully discuss your concerns. As a reference point, a recent survey of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery showed the average fee of forehead and browlift surgery to be $3685.

The second cost component is the facility in which your operation is performed. I operate only in a state of the art surgical enter - not in a in-office surgical room. This surgical center is JCAHO certified, which means it has passed the highest level of federal inspection. Cosmetic surgery is real surgery, and I strongly believe that having it performed in a JCAHO certified center is in your best medical interest. The average surgical center fee for this operation is $910.

The final cost component is the anesthesia fee. The training background of the person ultimately responsible for your sedation should be carefully considered. Nurse anesthetists are members of the surgical team; however, in every cosmetic operation I perform, an anesthesiologist who has completed medical school, residency, and board certification is responsible for your sedation. This is the level of care I would insist on for my own family members. Anesthesia fees for this operation average $425.

After your consultation you will leave the office with an easy to understand written quote in which we will list the cost of these three components for your individualized surgical plan. Keep in mind that the facility and anesthesia fees are time-based and so may be increased, or decreased, based on the actual final length of your surgery.

How Long Is The Recovery Period?

During the first week there will be some swelling and possibly some bruising in the upper forehead or upper eyelid region (click link for example image). Approximately one week after surgery, you’ll return to have any stitches removed. Most patients are completely ready to go back out in public 10-14 days after the operation.

How Painful Is Forehead/Brow lifts?

The advances in endoscopic surgery have made browlifts much less painful than in the past. Tightening of the forehead skin places some tension on those nerves so it is normal to have a headache for 2-3 days following surgery. This is alleviated by the prescription pain medications that all patients receive.

When Can I Return To School Or Work?

If you do light (office) work, particularly if you work from home, you could return to these activities four to five days after the operation. If you do more physical work, seven to ten days is more appropriate.

What Are The Common Risks?

Every type of surgery has risks. It’s my ethical responsibility to educate you on these risks so you can make the best possible decision for yourself while weighing these risks against the benefits of surgery. My training helps me to minimize these risks to the best of my ability, but I cannot eliminate them entirely.

Common risks include loss of hair follicles near incision sites, numbness to forehead, facial nerve weakness, and asymmetry.

The risks above are the most common ones that I think you should be aware of, but they are not a complete list of all possible risks. When I see you in consultation and we begin to formulate your surgical treatment plan, I’ll review with you not only these common risks but also the less likely complications that may occur.

Experience Matters...

Experience matters when determining the best way to address patients’ concerns about their forehead and eyebrow area. Dr. Mobley takes the time to explain forehead and brow anatomy to patients and to educate them on the surgical options. Dr. Mobley is double board-certified both as a head and neck surgeon (ABOto) and as a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon (ABFPRS). The explanations given by Dr. Mobley help patients to understand their options and to participate in the decision-making process.

Utah Forehead Lift and Brow Lift Surgery

Salt Lake City, Utah Forehead Lift & Brow Lift Surgery

As you age, a drooping brow and eyes can make you appear tired and angry. During your consultation, Dr. Mobley will take the time to help you determine which procedures will give you the best rejuvenated appearance. Brow lifts are commonly performed to alleviate signs of aging by reducing frown lines and elevating heavy or low-set eyebrows. While there are several methods used to lift the brow, the endoscopic technique is the most preferred due to shorter incisions, less effect on hairline position, minimal scarring, and reduced recovery time. Lifting the eyebrows can give your eyes a more open and youthful appearance while eliminating a stern or tired look. Dr. Mobley always avoids maneuvers that would result in a “pulled” or “surprised” look. Recovery is approximately 10 days, and some patients are ready to go back to work in a week.
