Out of Town Patients:

Many of our patients now use the Internet to research their options and to find the surgeon who best meets their needs. Dr. Mobley's reputation has resulted in a significant number of patients who have traveled to Salt Lake City to be treated by him. We welcome our patients from out of town and want to reassure you that your visit will be as comfortable and convenient as possible. Because Salt Lake City has a more reasonable cost of living compared to larger metropolitan areas, you may find it economically advantageous to travel here for surgery.

Many patients come from out of town in search of privacy for their surgery. They want some time away from friends and co-workers during the early healing period. Because Utah is a popular vacation destination, telling people that you're coming here provides a reasonable explanation for your time away. Depending on which procedure you have performed, when you return, they may attribute your refreshed appearance to your vacation rather than realizing you've had cosmetic surgery.

Send Digital Photos Ahead of Time


If your plan is to have your consultation and surgery within a few days of each other, it is essential that we have as much information about you in advance as possible. Please take a set of digital photographs. We recommend doing this in a well-lit area against a background that contrasts well with your skin tone (medium blue is a good choice).

We require a set of five standard poses. If your consultation is about a rhinoplasty, please include a sixth shot a view of your nose from the bottom. Please see the images below for example of how to frame the photos.

Preoperative Clearance


Certain patients may require preoperative clearance. This is determined an individualized basis, often coordinating with your primary care physician. In general, if you are over the age of 50, basic blood work (Chem 7) and an EKG are usually required. If you're over the age of 40, we recommend you have a complete physical examination prior to elective cosmetic surgery.

 

The day of your Consultation


Plan on spending an hour in the office for your consultation. This includes your examination by Dr. Mobley and meetings with other staff members who will assist you in planning your surgery. Information about and directions to the Utah Surgical Center will be provided during your consultation. If arrangements have been made for a weekend consultation, we will give you instructions on where and when to meet us for entering the building. Travel time to the office from any of our recommended hotels is less than 15 minutes.


The day of Surgery


Your surgery will be performed at The Utah Surgical Center. We encourage patients to travel with a family member or close friend who can assist in your postoperative care. It is a standard of care to have someone with you for at least 24 hours following your surgery. If a friend or family member cannot accompany you, we can assist you in providing nursing care through a local home health agency. We also advise that you have someone assist you with transportation for postoperative clinic appointments since you may be taking pain medication

.

Postoperative Care


Plan to stay in Salt Lake City from 3-10 days after surgery depending on which procedures you have performed. Some patients have opted to go home a day or two after surgery but still return approximately one week later for suture removal and postoperative checkup.

Your Return Home


When you go home, it is important that you follow all of Dr. Mobley's printed instructions for your recovery. Most procedures need a follow-up visit at approximately one week and again at 6-8 weeks. Please include this in your planning.
